Hanoi Log: day 1

One thing about the people here: they like to use their horns. And they ride a helluva lot of motorcycles. All the shoplots here are amazingly narrow, with everything crammed into a slim rectangle. Despite its initial appearance, everything is quite in order. Specific streets sell specific items, which I think makes it easy to check prices but bores the hell out of you if you are tagging along with your parents while they find silk pillow cases. That was our first destination: the silk factory. Same stuff as in China, cept its much smaller. No pictures though, as i'm using the hotel's computer in the lobby and I can't find a usb port that isn't used.

Next was lunch. The restaurant correctly defines the saying 'You can't judge a book by its cover'. From the outside, it seemed like a thin slot amongst the other shops, but when you get inside, it opens up into a big space complete with tasteful furniture and soft lighting. The food was equally good too.

After a nap, we went to the water puppet show, which was actually invented by the farmers in Vietmam. There was a pond instead of a stage, and the puppeteers used sticks to control the puppets. IMO the movements were quite aggresive, big jerks back, forth and swift swings left and right. I didn't quite understand it though as most of it was in Vietamese. But I like the part where the duck runs amok and gets eaten by a manic cat.

Left with nothing to do, as the itenary for today had ended, we walked back to the hotel. Apparently, that particular street we walked thru was selling shoes and DVDs. I hope they get to sell their enormous stock so they have a better quality of life. I've seen enough street sellers to feel like buying from them everytime I see them.

That's essentially what happened on day one. Gotta crash now.

Under Heavy Acceleration

Darius is beat! I know its a little long to finally finish the NFS carbon game, but at least I had some fun. Muscle cars rock. All I had to do was to brake a little while using his car like a guiderail to go around the corner, and keep him back for ten seconds. The ending was a little anti climatic though. Instead of a enormous hyperspeed police chase like in Most Wanted, you get a short clip of Darius telling you to not let this sweet victory get into your head, and driving off. Plus a long line of credits.

Welcome Back!

It has been quite some time since i had delivered my words to Blogger. Let me summarize, then.

Since my last post, I had gone on a short trip to sngapore to visit my cousin and also to get the guitar he was going to lend to me. Mt uncle of course took us on a short tour around the Suntec City Mall, which has a fountain that grants your wishes. Then, at like 11 pm my uncle got to the end of his great tour and we reached my cousin's house. Over time (he's married now and has a job, so i guess it was quite a long time) he collected a reasonable array of guitars, including one mymum gave to him when she got married. Yes, Pn. Puah used to play the guitar.

I started learning the guitar too. 1st lesson only so far. A strip of pain burns a line on my fourth fingers everytime I hit the strings. Worse, I think I may be playing some notes wrong. Nevermind then, I think I will just go ask the teacher.

Two of my downloads just finished too. Better, they finished on the same day, just a couple hours between each other. Now my hard disk is beginning to get full de... more than 30 gb of games alone inside, including the disc images. I need a external hard drive. And unlike William, I will not use it to......

Anyway, there's all this hype from New Moon. Good hype from the fans of course, but mostly bad hype from critics, usually with a 4.-something rating out of ten, not five, mind you. So, I think I can safely, well, not really in the literal sense, that the Twilight Saga sucks. Except the books. I haven't read it yet, but apart from the fans, it also produces good comments from the critics. That should be happening, Twilight, New Moon fans, if you are to call those two "movies" 'EXCELLENT!' AWESOME!' and etc, etc. Sorry.

Hey, there's a Alice Cullen!

I think they are supposed to be Vampy training teachers. But they look like a joke....
